Foster Youth Fresh Start Kits

Imagine turning 18 and being completely on your own. No family home to return to. No parents to call. Everything you own in a trash bag.

That's reality for roughly 20,000 young Americans who "age out" of foster care every year. On their 18th birthday (21st in California), the support they've known simply ends. Within four years, up to half will face homelessness or housing instability. These aren't statistics — they're teenagers starting adulthood with less than most of us pack for a weekend trip.

What a Fresh Start Kit Contains

 Each $250 kit gives one young adult the foundation for independent life: real luggage (no one should move with a trash bag), kitchen basics, new bedding, bathroom essentials, a first-aid kit and basic tools, plus a $25 grocery gift card for their first week of food. Kits will be assembled and delivered in coordination with transitional housing and social service organizations — we are currently establishing these partnerships so kits reach youth as they exit care.
